How is it that white people are so dominant in South Africa?
How is it that South Africa is so dominated by white people despite being only 10 percent of the country? How is it that white people dominated so much that they were able to enforce racial segregation and oppression against the blacks who were the vast majority of the country? Everytime I see South Africa represented, through its language, its government, its religion, its tv shows, etc, everything has European origin or has a dominant European presence.
What I don’t understand is how such a small proportion of the population could have such a profound effect on a population. If whites invaded/colonized other parts of the world, would whites completely take over and have their way or is South Africa a unique situation?
Part of your facts is correct.
But, South Africa has a black government.
Of the 11 official languages, 9 are languages spoken by blacks, sadly no one in the rest of the western world can understand, so the international communicating language is english.
Lots of tv shows are influenced by blacks, have predominantly black actors etc.
Religion has been spread all over the world by missionaries, mainly whites, I presume.
Education also plays a large role. Whereas whites attend school without too much upheaval, blacks seem to target their schools with some inexplicable loathing and try to destroy them, setting schools alight, vandalism and theft of educational aids like computers etc.
And, one usually sees what one wants to see. Underneath this, one finds the african way of life slowly taking over, the african decay and corruption settling in.
Don´t be mistaken, the whites are still fairly influential, but blacks are too. It´s just that blacks look after themselves, and prefer to stuff the extra cash into their own pockets instead of looking after their fellow citizens.
So, yes, South Africa is unique, in that there is a good opposition that has to fight for everything. If it were not for a strong healthy (predominantly) white opposition, South Africa would be worse off.
And it is not fair to criticise anything in South Africa unless one has actually lived there for a few years, Tourists cannot make a qualified judgement, a holiday is different. One could only understand the (South) African way of doing things when one lives and works there.
